| MSCONFIG not working...? Alright. So my old man doesn't know too much about computers. He enjoys his nude celebrity sites, which we all know is riddled with viruses. Long story short, we had a virus that wouldn't allow us to even boot up. You could get into the option to start windows normally, safe mode, etc (via F-8). But even after trying all 12 or 13 options 3 times each, it would still sit at the black screen, not loading anything. So I brought the computer over to a buddy where his neighbor used some Puppy Linux thing or whatever to wipe the drive and reinstall XP Pro he had ripped or something. He got it all installed and what not, though this "ripped" copy looks nothing like XP and pisses me off. But I was just happy to see a desktop again. Here's the dilema. We can't get MSCONFIG to run through the "run" command. It says it isn't found. He said he did a system search and the msconfig is in there, but just doesn't run via "run", again. Any ideas are appreciated. Or am I just better off finding a proper version of XP and starting over again...? Thanks again. |
